Venice was a pretty incredible, if overpriced, place. The fact that a city with no automobiles, that does everything by boat, even exists is pretty amazing. I don't know how they built those houses. We bought a day pass for the boats, and rode up and down the canals all day. We didn't ride the famous gondolas, which are more for romantic types. Aside from the canals, Venice also has some impressive palaces and galleries.
St. Mark's basilica is another amazing cathedral. We of course climbed the bell tower there.
