CS 460 - Symbols and Acronyms in William Stallings' "Data and Communications" (4th Edition)

Symbols and Acronyms in William Stallings' /Data and Computer Communications/ (4th Edition)

by Charlton D. Rose

This collection of acronyms and symbols often encountered in the study of data communications was compiled using William Stallings' "Data and Computer Communications", 4th edition, as a guide, since the text is a fairly representative treatment of data communications issues that are important in the 1990's. The creation of this list was inspired by the aggravation I felt when I was forced to read the text backwards and was supposed to know the meaning of an acronym in chapter 15 that was defined in chapter 2.

Definitions in parenthesis indicate the nature of the acronym or symbol, rather than what it stands for. Definitions including page numbers indicate symbols whose meanings could not be confidently determined. Any help completing these definitions is welcome.

Users of this list are strongly encouraged to take part in its development and perfection. Suggestions for corrections, modifications, and additions to this list are welcome and should be sent via Internet email to sharky@cs.byu.edu.

Thank you, and enjoy.

Charlton Rose 8/5/94
